About building brand Goa Crafts and Micro-enterprises
Goa Tourism Director Swapnil Naik was speaking at the introductory of a two day seminar on Building Brand Goa Crafts and Micro-enterprises on Sunday dated 27th March 2011. The South Asia Foundation (SAF), a non-profit making body, along with Goa Handicraft Rural and Small Scale Industries Development Corporation (GHRRSIDC) is concurrently working out several initiatives to provide market for Goan handicraft items.
Goa Crafts Village
Goan handicrafts across the world, Goa has various government-funded and non-profit organizations have come together for tied up handicrafts with the booming tourism industry in Goa. Herein Goa, Tourism is an important industry and it goes hand in hand with Goa's handicrafts. The Goa state's 1/3 population is directly or indirectly dependent on the tourism business in Goa. Tourism Director Swapnil Naik said that they have planned and executed several joint efforts to promote both industries all across globe.
Goan Handicrafts export to different countries
Goa state Tourism Director Swapnil Naik further expressed that Goa tourism industry guaranteed that local handicrafts are promoted in different countries when the State participates in road shows. Naik further added that there is a great response for Goan handicrafts abroad and they have been getting bulk orders.
The foundation is introducing a crafts village in Goa, its name can be as Goa Crafts Village that will have around 250 local artisans of different crafts and shall provide with residents cum work sheds for displaying their crafts.
